Making a heroic effort in self-publishing
The Comic Book Marketplace was a niche publication created by comic book authority Gary Carter. Serving as editor and publisher, with his wife Lisa as art director, they connected with an enthusiastic fan base—but struggled against the dreaded deadline demon. Despite help from volunteers, preparing 80 pages of content didn't leave time for anything else. This looked like a job for designWELL!
First step was a redesign of the magazine, with prefab templates and procedural guidelines. We followed up with three days of coaching, ironing out the kinks in editorial, streamlining the production pipeline and improving efficiency by a third. As a result, the busy couple started taking weekends off, and eventually made CBM enough of a success to attract an interested buyer.
If you'd like to add punch to your design and sock it to your production problems, contact designWELL—and your magazine can really take off.
“Joe helped us put our effort where it counts—on the finished page.”
