Worked with a team of business, circulation, and editorial consultants to provide start-up and repositioning assistance for magazine publishers. Developed business plans and prototypes for clients including California magazine, The Pelz Golf Report and the California Department of Health.
Broderbund Software, Inc. | senior art director, Print Shop Studio (1995-97)
As creative director: Unified look and feel of four separate software product lines, including The Print Shop and Kid Pix. Oversaw websites, created prototype content, designed new software functionality. Developed and art directed user interface models. Defined, selected, and managed creation of artwork & photography for home productivity products. Launched company intranet newsletter In Touch. Coached product team in graphic design.
As department manager: Reorganized and managed art department from 7 to 25 as needed, with annual art production budget of $750,000. Reduced art acquisition costs by 50% and quadrupled output. Streamlined corporate documentation process, wrote guidelines for H-R newsletter. Cultivated partnerships for editorial content, including Index Stock Photography, T/Maker Clip Art, Photodisc and other companies.
McGraw-Hill, Inc. | art director, Open Computing magazine (1991-95)
Developed editorial and design strategy for monthly business publication. Supervised marketing and circulation projects, instituted art/edit schedule and trimmed art/production costs by 50%. Repositioned UnixWorld magazine as Open Computing. Designed and launched of Selling Networks and Hands-On spin-offs. Converted department from unix to mac desktop publishing system in 1993. Prepared launch of UnixWorld webzine in 1995.
M&T Publishing | group art director (1985-91)
Art directed LAN Technology & Personal Workstation magazines. Coordinated existing typesetting production to in-house desktop pre-press system for four magazines. Redesigned LAN at the beginning of 1991. Oversaw cover design and photography of sister publications. Streamlined prepress workflow as production manager/art director in 1988. Designed book jackets, catalogues, and direct mail packages.
